    World Bank International Essay Competition

    The World Bank and its partners, invite young people to participate in an International Essay Competition: »Youth Migration »
    The Essay Competition 2011 invites youth to share ideas on the opportunities, challenges and implications of youth migration.

    Please answer the following questions:
    1) How has migration (international or internal, in a sending or a receiving country) affected you, your family, your community, or your country?
    2) How do you perceive the benefits of migration (increased opportunities for young people, remittances) versus the risks (brain drain, illegal immigration and exploitation of young immigrants)?
    3) What actions can you recommend for broadening opportunities for young migrants in their countries of destination and their countries of origin?

    There are two categories:
    1.Essay
    2.Video

    Criteria:

     

     

    • the competition is open for nationals of ALL countries of the world, students and non-students alike, aged 18-25. Students enrolled in Ph.D. courses are, however, not eligible to participate.
       
    • essays and videos should be submitted by individuals
       
    • one participant may only submit one work per category
      Consult the website for further details on the criteria and rules of the competition.

      Awards include:
      1. Essay
       

    • authors of the best essays (finalists) will participate in the Final Jury in Paris, France, in May 2011, and attend the Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE). The World Bank will cover the cost of travel and accommodation for the finalists.
       
    • Money awards: 1st prize: 3,000 USD; 2nd prize: 2,000 USD; 3rd prize: 1,000 USD

      2. Video
       

    • Author of the winning video will also be invited for a screening ABCDE in Paris, France.
       
    • Money awards: 1st prize: 2,000 USD; 2nd prize: 1,000 USD; 3rd prize: 500 USD 

      The jury reserves the right to modify the allocation depending on the number of winning essays.
      All submissions must be made online via the Essay Competition website. Videos are submitted via YouTube. Submissions can be made in English, French or Spanish.

    The 2012 essay competition is currently on hold and may be postponed to later this year or 2013.
