    European Ombudsman Traineeships

    The European Ombudsman offers a limited number of traineeships to university or higher education graduates with an interest in European Union public administration and how it relates to citizens.

    There are two annual training periods beginning on September 1 and January 1. Work locations include Brussels (Belgium) and Strasbourg (France).

     

    For the September 2024 traineeship period, the Ombudsman is offering traineeships in:

    Eligible candidates

    • nationals of an EU Member State or of an accession/candidate country;
    • not have benefitted, for more than eight consecutive weeks or two full months, from a previous paid traineeship or work contract in a European institution, body, agency, office, service, delegation, representation, including the office of a Member of the European Parliament or of a European political group;
    • have a thorough knowledge of one of the EU official languages and very good knowledge of another and strong English skills;
    • candidates applying for case handling should have a degree/diploma of at least 3 years in either law, political science, European studies, or European public administration
    • candidates applying for digital communication should have a degree/diploma of at least 3 years in communication, journalism or media design, with focus on online media and/or digital marketing
    • candidates applying for the traineeship for persons with disabilities should have a university degree or be at least third year students (or equivalent) of a higher education establishment. They must provide, in one of the EU official languages, the necessary evidence, such as:

    – a document issued by a national or regional authority or an accredited body in a Member State of the EU;

    – an EU disability card;

    – a recent certificate issued by a medical doctor: the certificate must have been issued in a Member State of the EU and be not more than six months old; it must state clearly the condition which the medical doctor considers a disability and include confirmation from the signing medical doctor that, to the best of their understanding, the condition in question is a long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairment which, in interaction with various barriers, may hinder full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.

    Place of work: Brussels (Belgium) or Strasbourg (France).

     

    Monthly grant: trainees receive a monthly grant during the traineeship period.

    IT TRAINEESHIP 2024 Java/Web developer trainee

     

    Applicants must

    • Have good knowledge of Java, Angular, and HTML5/CSS3, of Hibernate, Spring, Javascript, Typescript, SQL, dotNET, C-sharp, MS Sharepoint or MS CRM Dynamics would be an advantage.
    • be a national from an EU Member State, or of an accession/candidate country;
    • have a Master’s/Engineer degree in software development or be in the process of completing it;
    • should not have benefited, for more than eight consecutive weeks or two full months, from a previous paid traineeship or work contract in a European institution, body, agency, office, service, delegation, representation, including the office of a Member of the European Parliament or of a European political group;
    • have a thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the EU and very good knowledge of a second one; 
    • working languages English and/or French.

     

    Monthly grant

    The grant for the Strasbourg-based trainees is approximately €1850 per month. Additionally, trainees receive a €40 monthly supplement as support for their internet connection.
