    European Remembrance

    The strand1. European remembrance projects within the Europe for Citizens’ 2021-2027 programme supports activities fostering a common culture of remembrance and mutual understanding between citizens from different EU Member States, notably by supporting projects that reflect on historical turning points and changes in regimes in Europe’s 20th century and on their continuous importance for the Europe of today.

    In 2024, specific priorities for European Remembrance are:

    – Democratic transition, strengthening society based on the rule of law, democracy and fundamental rights

    − Strengthening the remembrance of the Holocaust, genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity to reinforce democracy in the EU

    − Migration, de-colonisation and multicultural European societies

    − European integration and its defining achievements

    Projects are expected to:

    − Link different types of organisations to create synergies (between non-profit, local,

    regional and national administration, academia and memorial and learning site with

    educational institutions);

    − Develop different types of activities (training activities, publications, online tools,

    research, non-formal education, public debates, exhibitions etc.);

    − Establish and conduct trainings for rights defenders, civil servants, members of the

    judiciary, law enforcement officials and policymakers; 

    − Provide opportunities for intergenerational exchanges between witnesses and

    future generations;

    − Involve people from different target groups and gender, including, where possible,

    people facing any form of discrimination and intolerance.

    Eligible applicants must be:

    For lead applicants: non-profit legal entities (public or private bodies) or an international organisation.

    − For co-applicants: non-profit or for profit legal entities (public or private bodies). Organisations which are for profit may apply only in partnership with public entities, private non-profit organisations or with international organisations.

    − established in EU Member States (including overseas countries and territories (OCTs))

    − in non-EU countries:

    − in countries associated to the CERV Programme or candidate countries.

    Maximum grant for a project: 14 000 000.

    The activities must take place in any of the eligible countries.

    The project must start within the relevant eligibility period.

    Maximum project duration is 18 months.

     Projects should normally range between 12 and 24 months.

    The application must involve at least two applicants (lead applicant and at least one co-applicant, not being an affiliated entity or associated partner).
