    Charles V European Award-Javier Solana Madariaga

    The European Academy of Yuste Foundation recently announced a European Research and Mobility Grants scheme for European Studies entitled: ‘Charles V European Award – Javier Solana Madariaga’.
    The grants are directly related to the “VI edition of the Summer Doctoral Seminar in Contemporary European Multidisciplinary Studies”, organized with the academic support of SEGEI (SocioEconomic Governance and European Identity) Research Network, which will take place at the Royal Monastery of Yuste (Extremadura, Spain) in the second semester of 2011.

    Objectives
    These European Research and Mobility Grants for European Studies „Charles V European Award – Javier Solana Madariaga‟ are aimed at supporting:
    i) the research within Europe required to prepare the contribution to the doctoral seminar in the Royal Monastery of Yuste;
    ii) the researchers‟ travel to Yuste to participate in the seminar and to attend the ceremony of presentation of the research papers;
    iii) the publication of the researchers‟ contributions in a collective work, encompassing the results of the research carried out in the framework of these grants.

    Eligibility
    To qualify for these grants candidates should be European students in the process of writing a Ph. D. dissertation in history, political sciences, economics, law and other disciplines of human and social sciences, as well as other scientific fields, on the 2011 topic of “European Union Foreign Relations and Foreign Policy, and Cooperation in the Mediterranean”.

    One grant will be awarded to a project from the Extremadura region from Spain, while several other grants are open to participants from Mediterranean non-EU countries.

    Candidates should not have obtained a similar Charles V Award grant from the European Academy of Yuste Foundation or from the SEGEI Network in previous editions. 

    How to apply
    To apply for the 2011 research and mobility grants, from a multidisciplinary viewpoint, candidates would have to send papers related to « European Union Foreign Relations and Foreign Policy, and Cooperation in the Mediterranean”

    Papers can be written in English, Spanish or French. However, for organisational reasons, presentations at the Seminar, as well as presentations regarding publication and results of research, will be made only in English or Spanish. Participants whose mother tongue is not one of these two languages should present proof of proficiency in either.

    Grants
    The total funding allocated to the European Research and Mobility Grants for European Studies „Charles V European Award – Javier Solana Madariaga, to the Doctoral Seminar in Contemporary
    European Multidisciplinary Studies and to the publication of its results is 90,000 euros.

    The 3,000-euro European Research and Mobility Grant for European Studies grant awarded to each student is distributed as follows: 2,000 euros for research expenses, 500 euros for mobility related to the presentation of the paper in Yuste and the presentation of the publication with the results of the research, and 500 euros for the publication.

    The deadline for submission of applications was 25 of June 2011. The programme will be updated when new information will be available.
