I had just finished high school but I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to study, so I decided to take my time and work as volunteer in another country because I always had wanted to experience that.
That’s how I ended up in Greece as an EVS for Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece. I was obviously a little scared since I had never done this before, but it turned out to be the best decision I had taken so far in my life. Working with the sea turtles was great and overwhelming at the same time. I had to take care of them which included cleaning, feeding as well as giving medication. Every little improvement of their condition was a big step for us! But this experience wouldn’t have been so positive without the people I met there. We were like a big family despite our differences and it really felt like home to me.
After six months spent in Greece, I wasn’t the same person anymore, but a better version of me. I learned a lot about life in general but also about myself, my limits and my qualities. Today I can say that I feel more confident (and independent!) and I want to keep the positive energy I found in Greece.
