
Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme
The programme’s objective is to enhance human capital development in Africa, while strengthening intra-African collaboration as called for by Agenda 2063.
More specifically, the programme aims to:
– increase the employability of students;
– improve the quality of higher education in Africa and its relevance to Africa’s development vision;
– strengthen the modernisation and internationalisation of African higher education institutions, and promote the development of an African higher education and research space.
Mobility of students and staff between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is expected to help them acquire stronger knowledge and skills and contribute to improve the quality and relevance of teaching and learning through exchanges of practices. In addition, the scheme will contribute to strengthen the modernisation and internationalisation strategies of HEIs through the establishment of mechanisms to manage the mobility flows.
Call is open to the following thematic fields of study:
- Agriculture and Food Security;
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and
- Information and Communications Technology (ICT);
- Economics, business, finance;
- Education Sciences;
- Health Sciences;
- Environment.
Eligible applicants, partnership and individuals
Higher education institutions (HEIs) private or public, registered in Africa that provide courses at postgraduate level (master level and/or doctorate degree) of higher education leading to a qualification recognised by the competent authorities in their own country. Only HEIs accredited by relevant national authorities in Africa are eligible. Branches of HEIs from outside Africa are not eligible.
The partnership is composed of a lead applicant and co-applicants (partner HEIs and an EU technical partner).
The technical partner has to be a HEI from one of the EU Member States having been awarded an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education.
The partnership will be constituted of minimum four and maximum six African HEIs as partners (including the applicant) and one technical partner from an EU Member State.
Eligible activities and duration
The project will entail the organisation and implementation of student and staff mobility in high quality master and doctoral programmes and academic/administrative staff mobility, as well as the provision of education/training and other services to foreign students and teaching/training and research assignments and other services to staff from the countryies covered by the project.
Mobility must take place only in Africa.
Activities shall start on 1st January 2021.
The duration of the project must be between 60 months.
Budget
The overall indicative amount made available under this Call for Proposals is EUR 9 800 000 allowing around 350 mobility flows.
Each grant will amount to between EUR 1 000 000 (minimum grant size) and EUR 1 400 000 (maximum grant size).
