Summer or winter holidays are ideal for seasonal work abroad: hospitality, restaurants, hostels, tourism, agricultural work…. As a European citizen, you have everywhere in the Union the same right to access employment. 

Keep in mind to:

  • get informed about the living conditions of the destination country in advance;
  • prepare an Europass CV;
  • ensure that your employer declares you as an employee;

Preparing your application with Europass

Under Europass, you will find free tools to help you manage your professional career. With Europass, you can:

  • create your Europass CV in 31 languages using templates,
  • download your CV and share it with employers, EURES, or other job platforms;
  • identify your skills;
  • receive the Europass diploma supplement from your higher education institution;
  • write cover letters;
  • receive personalized job suggestions;
  • keep all your documents in one secure space;
  • showcase your qualifications, experiences, and language skills in a portfolio.

Job search via EURES

EURES is a European cooperation network of public employment services. Its goal is to facilitate the free movement of workers and support young Europeans who want to find a job in another country of the Union.

For free, it offers you:

  • EURES regional advisors to inform you about living conditions in different countries;
  • a database of job vacancies in Europe ;
  • information on mobility;
  • expanded CV searches;
  • assistance for employers.

European Professional Card

The European Professional Card allows you to have your professional qualifications recognized in another country of the European Union for certain regulated professions. Currently, the European Professional Card applies only to the following professions:

  • nurses;
  • pharmacists;
  • physiotherapists;
  • mountain guides;
  • real estate agents.

The benefits of using the European Professional Card:

  • Authorities in your home country help you prepare your application and certify the validity of your documents;
  • If the host country authorities do not make a final decision within the established time frame, recognition is automatically granted;
  • If the host country authorities refuse recognition, they must explain their decision and inform you of the appeals process, meaning, they must tell you how you can contest their decision;
  • You do not need to re-upload your documents for future applications.

ESCO System

The ESCO (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications, and Occupations) identifies and classifies jobs, skills, and qualifications relevant to the European labor market, as well as education and training. It helps jobseekers and employers to better understand various qualifications and certifications, thus facilitating professional mobility in Europe.

Starting a business

Starting a business

As an European citizen, you have the right to start your own business or to create a branch of an existing business in any country within the Union. However, conditions vary by country. Make sure to get informed about:

  • the procedures and deadlines;
  • the applicable laws;
  • the competent authorities;
  • the costs.

The Your Europe portal provides detailed information per country on the conditions for starting a business there.

Union member states have a one-stop service, that can provide information on starting a business abroad and also allows you to complete some administrative procedures.

You can obtain financial assistance from the European Union for starting a business. More information is available on Startup Europe Club.

If you want to operate in multiple countries of the Union, you can create a European Company. This special status allows you to:

  • transfer your company’s registered office to another European country without having to dissolve it;
  • work with staff established in multiple countries;
  • have flexible management;
  • participate in European tenders and obtain European Union funding;
  • expand in the European market.

Exchange of best practices between entrepreneurs

Have you launched your own activity within the last three years, or are you thinking about starting a business? Participate in the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs exchange program! It allows you to stay for up to 6 months with an experienced entrepreneur abroad to learn first-hand.

Conditions

  • Reside permanently in one of the participating countries;
  • Travel and accommodation costs are partially covered by the program;
  • New entrepreneurs and new applicants must pass via an intermediary organization.
