Model European Union 2016

This is a simulation of EU decision-making and politics, taking place annually in Strasbourg and bringing together highly skilled and motivated young Europeans.
Participants will have the opportunity to have a first-hand experience of the functioning of European institutions right on the premises of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, from 11th to 18th April 2015.

Young people from 18 to 26 years old, from the EU Member States and Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine, who are curious about the functioning of the European Institutions and who want to actively take part in a life-like simulation are invited to apply for a maximum of two roles (they will have to submit a motivation letter for both their 1st and 2nd choice).

The roles are the following:
– Member of the European Parliament (MEP);
– Minister of the Council of the European Union;
– Journalist;
– Photojournalist, Videojournalist;
– Lobbyist;
– Interpreter (only 1st choice).

The proposals up for debate in MEU 2016 are the following:
– Does the current refugee crisis demonstrate the failure or the success of dealing with the right to asylum at a European level?
– Is it feasible and desirable for the European Union to rely exclusively on the use of renewable energy?
– Is the process of European Integration driven by ideology or practical considerations? Discuss.

Selected participants will have to cover their travel costs both to and from Strasbourg and pay a participation fee of 150€ (covering the accommodation in Strasbourg as well as breakfasts and lunches, social events and transportation within the city).
